Memory Screening Camp at AV College, Hyderabad
- On occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi and as a conclusion to their World Alzheimer's month activities, Memory Clinic, NIMS Hospital along with ARDSI- Hyderabad Deccan chapter conducted a memory screening camp as part of Elder's Day celebrations done by Lion's Club Hyderabad at AV College grounds.
- Memory Clinic staff as well as ARDSI- Hyderabad Deccan staff administered the cognitive assessment tool ACE-III in multiple languages such as Indian English, Hindi, Telugu to almost 100 people constituting a majority of senior citizens.
- The people who were screened were given Score sheets with their score on the ACE-III along with a description of their level of cognitive functioning and explained the significance of the scores.
- People who had seemed to have cognitive impairment were given appointments at the Memory Clinic where they could come to get more detailed assessments done.
- Some caregivers who approached the team with patients with known dementia were given information about the ARDSI- Hyderabad Deccan activity centre and its activities.
- Further, people were also provided tips by the assessors on how to maintain a level of good cognitive functioning and told about the different research projects being conducted by the Memory clinic in which they could enroll for free.
- Participants left both satisfied and relieved with their clinical diagnosis and some showed interest in volunteering for research.
