The Lady in The Mirror - a puppet show on Alzheimer's disease dementia

  • The encore performance of the puppet show 'The Lady in The Mirror' at Saptaparni commenced with a talk by Dr Suvarna Alladi (President, ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan; Neurologist, Memory Clinic, NIMS Hospital). She educated the audience of about a 100 people ranging from 3 to 75 years of age about the disease dementia, its risk and protective factors. She elaborated on simple lifestyle changes like physical, cognitive and social activities that could stimulate the brain and delay the onset of dementia. Following her talk Dr Suvarna answered several questions on dementia and how it was different from normal ageing and how to delay its onset.

  • The audience sat rapt in attention as the puppet show commenced, giving them insightful glimpses into the world of dementia patients and caregivers in an artistic manner. NAPC brought life to the story written by Amulya Rajan the psychologist at ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan. The tale captured the multitude of physical, emotional and social challenges families with dementia face and how they cope with it. The world-class puppet show, set in the beautiful open amphitheatre of Saptaparni made the learnings of the show more touching and tremendously interesting.

  • The audience of all ages left with a more thorough understanding of the disease dementia and with many inspiring comments about the show and the concept.
