Awareness session at Malla Reddy College of Teacher Education on the topic of "Community Work"



A 2 day workshop was organized by Malla Reddy College of Teacher Education for their trainee teachers (D.Ed, B.Ed and M.Ed) on the topic of "Community Work" on the 24th of May 2013.

Several NGOs and social development organizations were invited to address the trainee teachers, give them a perspective of the issues / causes being addressed by each of the organizations, and the importance of community participation, encouragement of local groups and individuals in social change and the role of teachers in building participative social change models.

Mr Shashidhar K - Treasurer (ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan Chapter), introduced the audience to ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan Chapter, history and the services offered. This was followed by a brief discussion on dementia - causes and major diseases, diagnosis, treatment and management of dementia.

The third aspect was on how teachers could help Andhra Pradesh become a dementia friendly state. The potential for teachers to be the first level information source on dementia, to encourage students and families to actively participate in creating local help groups, look-out groups, informal care-giver networks were discussed.

The presentation ended with a Q & A session.
