ARDSI Hyd Deccan supports Heritage for NISD 5 Day Dementia Training - March, 2012



Heritage Foundation in collaboration with NISD (Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt of India) and ARDSI Hyderabd Deccan has organised a five day course on Management of Dementia for 30 participants from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh from 26 to 30 March 2012.

As part of their filed-visits, they have visited ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan Activty Centre on 27th March, 2012.They were given brief introduction of the Activity Centre. 2 -3 participants took turns to observe each patient's activities at a time. Some of them interacted with the patients there. The participants left after they spend some time in understanding the different sets of activities in the Day care.

On 29th March, 2012, ARDSI Hyd Deccan Staff and Volunteers took the following Sessions:

1. What is Dementia and Ardsi Hyd Deccan services: Mr Shashidhar Komaravolu[Treasurer, ARDSI Hyd Deccan]
2. Practical Care for Persons with Dementia: Ms.Deepthi Angam [Psychologist, Daycare Operations Co-ordinator ARDSI Hyd Deccan]
3. Cognitive assessment for Elderly and Functional Rehabilitation for Persons with Dementia: . Ms.Vasundhara [Pshychologist, ARDSI Hyd Deccan]
4. Communication and Activities for Persons with Dementia: Ms Safiya [Psychologist and Day care Co-ordinator, ARDSI Hyd Deccan]

Two movie clips explaining Dementia and Validation therapy were played. With the help of role-plays ARDSI staff explained practical tips for positive interaction with persons with dementia.

The training concluded with a question and answer session.
