Healthy Ageing at the Academic Staff College, Osmania University on 19th Mar 2012



1. Participants: 50 Lecturers, Asst Professors& Professors from various universities& college (OU, AU, Nagarjuna, Kakatiya, SVU, Marathwada, PG Colleges in Kanpur, Sholapur, Bellary, Bidar, etc)

2. Organized by: Pain relief and Palliative Care Society of India (PRPCS), Hyderabad Chapter and the Academic Staff College under the UGC (OU Center)

3. Purpose of workshop: To introduce concepts of ageing, dementia and elder health issues into focus to the teaching fraternity in general

4. Duration: 1 1/2 hrs (3:30 pm to 5:00 pm IST)

The program started out with an introduction by Dr. Priya of PRPCS about the need for awareness about social health issues especially in tertiary areas such as Caring for the Aged, Dementia and its management and various services being offered by organizations such as ARDSI.

The program began with an introduction to the Human Brain, Healthy Ageing, Memory and Forgetfulness and possible causes after which the discussion moved into Dementia and its implications for an ageing population, demographics, costs and the caregiving burden, social impact and the need for comprehensive support services for Dementia Care.

Finally the session culminated with an introduction about ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan the services it offers to persons with dementia, their families, wider social network, organizations, etc.

The session was lively, enthusiastic, and interactive with multiple questions being asked and discussed by all the participants and facilitators.

The session ended with a vote of thanks by one of the participants.
