ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan, in conjunction with AASARA, GHMC, conducted a public awareness session on Saturday, June 6th 2009 at 6:00 PM at Sunder Nagar Community Hall, Near E.S.I, S.R. Nagar, Sunder Nagar. The meeting was attended by approximately 50 senior citizens.
The meeting started with an introduction of the speakers by Mr. Purnachander Rao, Secretary - Sunder Nagar Welfare Association

- Mr. Shashidhar (Executive Member, ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan).

Mr. Purnachander Rao requested Mr. Srinivasulu to address the session. Mr. Srinivasulu spoke about the various initiatives undertaken by AASARA like Inducting 100 bedside assistants by providing 3 months training and Nominating two AASARA member to attend one month long training program on management of Alzheimer’s and related Disorders under the auspices of NISD and ARDSI.
Mr. Srinivasulu then requested Dr. Chandrasekhar to address the audience. Dr. Chandrasekhar provided an overview of various dementias, symptoms and their treatment/management.
This session was very well received by the audience who sort addition insight into the condition and the steps required to mitigate risks associated with this condition. A good number of queries related to the activities that a person could engage in to maintain a healthy mind and body.
Mr. Shashidhar spoke in brief about ARDSI Hyderabad Deccan, the services offered, the importance of care giving and community participation in the management of this disorder.
Mr. Venkataswamy thanked the members of Sunder Nagar Welfare Association for actively participating in the awareness session and stressed upon the importance of keeping an active life style. He requested the members to keep themselves busy by pursuing their hobbies and emphasized the importance of meditation, yoga and learning new things.
The session concluded with an insightful address by Mr. Nageswara Rao about his month training experience at ARDSI, Cochin. He covered aspects related to the management of dementia and person centered care giving. He requested the audience to reach out to ARDSI for more awareness as well as address specific queries on the services, counselling etc. He also stressed upon the importance of maintaining a healthy and mentally active life style by engaging in pursuing hobbies such as solving puzzles, reading books, painting etc.
The meeting was concluded with a vote of thanks given by Joint Secretary of Sunder Nagar Welfare Association.
